This pretty much sums up the amazing six day stretch of weather we are still enjoying up here in the Catskill mountains. The wee house had a plethora of guests over July 4th weekend, and by plethora I mean four humans and two canines, which is our record to date, everyone opted to camp out under the glorious clear starry skies, so with the trailer free we could have crammed more merriment in… maybe next time?
There was lounging, bush walking, berry picking, grillin, grillin and more grillin, a secret fireworks display, river swimming, croquet, gardening, monopoly playing (the competitive streaks came roaring out) and oodles of conversation.
I wasn’t exactly sure how to start writing about this so I think I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
tempeh burgers on sprouted buns, with Wild Man Weiss Classic Potato salad and Bootlegger Beans.
lemon cupcakes courtesy of Shandaken Bake who stopped by for a bq lunch Saturday after the famous Pakatakan Round Barn farmers market, lucky for us these were the only things he did not sell out of, score!!
croquet anyone?
harvesting… I was a little late this year planting so did not get amaze and WOW my guests with my green thumb prowess, well other than the multitude of kale and chives that just won’t quit, but we did manage to pick off the first snap peas, baby beets to go alongside the KALE!
yes not all of the lawn has been tamed! that’s me and Coconutandquinoa and one brave dog, headed into the wilds for the massive raspberry patch to see what we can get.
on the cusp of really being ready, in another few days we shall be up to our eyeballs on juicy goodness.
ditto for the blueberry bush… that’s me bent over in the background in the garden trying to coax something out of it.
fresh lemonade
Mr Weiss was the grill master for the weekend and did a bang up job with the multitude of veggies we threw at him, not physically of course, we had grilled, peppers, baby onions, fava beans (whole in the shell), slabs of cauliflower cut crosswise, garlic scapes, giant sliced patty pans, beets and sliced sweet potatoes done in foil packets, corn, marinated tofu, and somewhere in there I snuck on a boneless leg o lamb.
and that my friends was the weekend extravaganza!
Big thanks to human and canine companions who made the weekend.
