a real NYC weekend…

I’m back again after another Des Moines stint… and to celebrate Mr Weiss and myself had a real cultural weekend.  First stop a lovely walk through Prospect park on our way to the Brooklyn Museum to see an Andy Warhol “The Last Decade”…

and “American High Style – Fashioning a National Collection”.  A truly awesome exhibition if you are at all interested in fashion and the first wave of female American designers, it was pretty spectacular and is running in conjunction with an exhibition at the Met, “American Woman, Fashioning a National Identity”, which we followed up seeing on Sunday, personally the Brooklyn Museum’s portion is way better than the Met’s and far less crowded.

definitely, definitely, definitely worth a visit! Even Mr Weiss said he enjoyed it, but he may have just been being a good sport.  We finished our weekend art-fest with a trip to Sotheby’s to see the Polaroid Corporation sell off a majority of its “gifted” works from various artist’s including numerous pieces by Ansel Adams, Chuck Close, Lucas Samaras, Andy Warhol, William Wegman, David Hockney and Robert Mapplethorp.

“This will be the first time in the history of our market that we have offered a collection based upon a technology, rather than an artist or a theme.”  The auction starts today and runs until tomorrow evening, it was an amazing show of works that you recognize but have never seen up close and personal.
