We had these three again this holiday weekend, with their driver and disciplinarian in tow, I think it might be time for a formal introduction… I’ve assigned movie star names to suit their characters and believe me they ARE characters!
The matriarch and “Grand Dame” of the crew… is Esme, otherwise known as, Gloria Swanson… the stately, slightly geriatric, somewhat deaf and possibly a little blind too, but carries herself dignity still intact…
next in line, but certainly no second fiddle is Stella, otherwise known as Mae West…. umm slightly more “voluptuously” proportioned than maybe she should be, tough as old boots and the #1 trouble maker…
no stone left unturned, certainly not on Mae’s watch, and especially if there could be some hidden food lurking beneath!
and that leaves Alfie, or Montgomery Clift (Monty for short), smoking jacket, sensitive, dashing, dapper and needs to be completely babied…
saying these three are a handful would not even scratch the surface, but then again, with these faces, they can pretty much get away with murder.
On the human front, I made this for breakfast one morning…
if you are not familiar with Haloumi cheese, you need to get familiar and get familiar fast! It’s Greek, a mixture of cow and sheep milk, has a high melting point and is easily grilled or fried… youza!! This is something you will want to make for yourselves… so start by collapsing some cherry tomatoes down…
a couple of tablespoons of olive oil, sprig of thyme and gently simmered until tomatoes collapse and burst should do it…
slice up the haloumi, avocado and get any type of thin dense bread ready for toasting…
on a hot griddle or in frying pan, heat 1-2 tbsp olive oil and cook cheese until golden brown both sides…
then fry a few eggs, one of our human guests had NEVER had a FRIED EGG!, yes people it can happen. Assemble: toast, avocado, haloumi, tomatoes, top with egg and sprinkle with chives… your guests may never leave.
We ran about afterwards and played this… dodging doggie legs the entire time… oh imagine the carnage…
then finished off the day stuffing more food…
a grilled vege delight, mostly everything from the garden, except corn (I haven’t attempted growing this yet) and tofu… well who’s ever heard of a tofu tree?
