weekend shenanigans

With guests here this weekend, it was the perfect opportunity to wield my puppet strings of power and get them to do “all sorts of quaint country things” whilst I reap the proverbial benefits… yes devious I know, but a well executed plan if I do say so myself.  So when my dear reader Mame (THANK YOU) pointed out a pick your own blueberry patch within spittin distance from the wee house…. I secretly thought to myself, “I’ll put these poor unsuspecting friends to work….”  Blueberries after all are Mr Weiss’ favorite I couldn’t squander an opportunity like that, now could I.

I’m not sure if this place has a name, but if you’re ambling along Route 23 towards Stamford on either a Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon, through to labor day, there should be a sign on the side of the road quotin “U PICK”.  May I suggest you leave skid marks and hightail it up there, you won’t believe the blueberry explosion that awaits.

Rows upon rows upon rows of bushes LADEN with berries, they give you buckets, you get your own row! And away you go…. one of us (out of the 4) had eyes as wide as saucers, was practically hyperventilating with delight and was so A.D.D distracted, ran amok amongst the bushes grabbing handfuls of blue, green and grass? throwing them randomly into my (ahem someone’s bucket).  Mr Weiss kindly reminded us all that “it’s not a competition and we are here for a relaxing, calm time”.  One of us found this easier said than done.

An example of someone (Mr Weiss) having a perfectly lovely day, taking his time picking and admiring his bounty.

bb4

An example of someone crazed and intoxicated by the sheer magnitude of what was picked and giddy with delight.

Stuffing ones face….restraint not my strongest suit. We left with 17lbs of berries, which looks like this

3 huge sackfuls… and YES our guests even managed to hang on to what they had picked, a pale by comparison 12 lbs.  But more importantly we left with friendships intact!

Stay tuned for a killer blueberry pierogie recipe I will post tomorrow…I bet you just can’t wait, now can you.

    Toni,
So glad you liked my suggestion. Isn’t it an amazing place to pick? They are so delicious. We hope to pick them when we’re up there around the 10th of August. We’re vacationing right now on the shores of Virginia Beach. What a lightning storm we watched tonight over the water. Wow!! Can’t wait to get the pierogi recipe. Sounds great!

One day me and my airstream are going to make it to Virginia Beach! The blueberry lady says U-pick will be open through Labor weekend, so I’m hoping to go back one more time. Looks like unfortunately I will be back in NYC aug 10th, boo hoo.
