Ah it’s the never-ending accent, even after a 21 year absence from New Zealand,  people over here still can’t understand me.  Sometimes it’s the words, sometimes is the accent, sometimes I’m mumbling, sometimes I’m just incoherent, so here my friends is a quick guide to all things kiwi.

“well well well what ‘ave we ‘ere?, looks like a sheila, ‘ere bob whatcha gonna do?”

So are you saying the local turkeys are from Ozzies? Next time you see them yell out “A’ Bruce!” and see if they respond.

I should have been a bit more specific with regards where the slang came from. A friend in N.Z sent the words over they are one big fridge magnet!

I’ll be sure to use the “don’t have a hissy fit will ya” on you in the future! Or you can use “come on rattle your dags” on me when I’m slacking…

Such a crazy thing… I so know how you feel… and it is often made much worse by the fact that I spent 9 years in the UK before moving to the US with my Irish husband… never sure where my idioms come from now! People look at me strangely when I say I am feeling a ‘box of birds’ or ask them if they are ‘taking the piss’… But it does make for some giggles when we are trading our funny phrases.
