in anticipation…

of being for here for the rest of this week,  I preemptively ate quite healthy on the weekend and made one of my super easy and really delicious Japanese dinners.  This menu will easily serve 4 people. Wasabi pickled cucumbers recipe here. Sauteed Spinach with Sesame Sauce 10 oz bag of spinach, steamed or sauteed [...]

r.i.p

The grand dame passed away this weekend… she left behind two grieving mommies and her canine brother and sister… she had a wonderful life and is now in doggy heaven.  Goodbye Esme you will be missed.

Corn Chowder

When I got my freezer last year, I did get “slightly” fanatical about freezing everything I could get me hands on… anyway I have subsequently learned that not all things freeze well, case in point, corn on the cob.  Yip don’t do it, fresh summer corn is delicious, but thrown in the freezer and dug [...]

from sad to happy

It’s my dream to grow grapes, yip.  I’m not talking about a whole vineyard or anything but just enough of a bounty to indulge ourselves.  My grandmother had a ripper grapevine that magically appeared every year, laden with huge black grapes… It’s canopy hung so low to the ground we used to crawl under there, [...]

no rest for the….

It was a big weekend around the “wee house”, Mr Weiss and I cracked the whip, rolled up our sleeves, gave the heave ho and knocked off a list of chores one of us had put together… hee hee. We finally had some weather that warranted being outside for longer than a few minutes and [...]

lemon almond cake

Whilst I’ve been amusing myself up at the wee house, oh you know, killing freshly planted flowers, mowing over small trees and screaming every half second at anything moving beneath my feet, Mr Weiss has been to Florida, NYC and back upstate.  As his reward I baked this cake, but perhaps I should have made [...]

The Catskill Kiwi fights back!

That’s right folks, I’m not taking this snow, frost and completely crappy weather laying down! Although I did take a bit of a snoozer in front of the fire yesterday,  wait…  what?  No I’m fired up alright, Mr Weiss drove his anthem singing wife “save the plants, we must save the plants” over to the [...]

aw come on!

Seriously weather its MAY! ah mow lines in the snow, awesome… that’s it, I am officially ANNOYED with the weather… RIP peonies, new dahlia plant, rose bush and half a dozen other plants that are looking pretty sad, dying from the fright of this frost and snow.

holy guacamole

In our 2 seconds of sunshine we experienced over the weekend, Mr Weiss and I threw together a Mexican feast… fajita’s to be precise, using a mish mash of condiments we had on hand and some home style guacamole. Guacamole 2 avocados 1 jalapeno seeded and diced juice of 1 lime 3 tbsp chopped cilantro [...]

the weekend…

Well I’m not sure what I have to say about this weekend…. especially the weird ass weather we got, it SNOWED people yes snowed, not once but TWICE! and promptly killed my delicate mint and basil plants I put in the day before… thanks  ALOT mother nature.  I’m just hoping my seeds survived, I couldn’t [...]
